Key Tasks:                            

Reporting to the VP of Operations, this Manager will have primary responsibility to develop and

implement procurement strategies, policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the Company

procures high quality raw ingredients and packaging materials at the best possible landed cost. 

Success in the position depends on sound inventory management and Materials Requirements

Planning (MRP) to drive purchasing and replenishment decisions.  Therefore an important task is

to fully implement MRP processes and technology to support the business.  And finally, support

new product development initiatives with innovative packaging solutions that strengthen

competitive standing in the market.


Primary Objectives:

Implement a professional purchasing function within the organization to procure high quality packaging materials and select raw ingredients at the best possible costs. Design and implement a procurement strategy, processes and controls utilizing Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) to forecast procurement needs and manage inventories to meet the operational and financial needs of the business. Manage inventories to required levels utilizing Materials Requirements Planning (MRP), to ensure uninterrupted supply of packaging materials, and best possible bracket pricing within the constraints of sound inventory management. Implement the control systems to manage inventory requirements at optimal levels. Work closely with the New Product Development team to help design and source packaging for new products, especially for those products where no current expertise exists. Create, implement and maintain a Supplier Scorecard with Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to evaluate and provide feedback to suppliers in order to drive continuous improvement. Effectively manage vendor relationships in order to secure quality materials at the best possible costs, while at the same time build long-term supplier partnerships.  Lead price negotiation, and execute contracts with key suppliers, where appropriate.  Seek out, develop and qualify new suppliers for existing materials and select ingredients in order to ensure the Company secures these ingredients and materials at the lowest possible costs. Work closely with Quality Assurance to maintain the Company’s supplier databases and ensure that all materials and ingredients meet product standards.  Take full responsibility for the quality of materials and ingredients. Communicate non-conformities with internal users, co-manufacturers and suppliers.  Determine root causes of problems, implement corrective and preventative actions.  Liaise with Marketing to ensure packaging meets design requirements and with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices. Review quotations and prepare purchase requisitions, approve and issue purchase orders in accordance with Company policy and negotiated terms and conditions.  Monitor macro trends in supplier and contract base and implement plans to anticipate new packaging technologies and developments in the industry.
